Plot: When jss sets sail on a yacht with a group of friends, she cannot shake the feeling that there is something wrong. PLOT: The film opens with a frame story set in a 19th-century Eastern European shtetl. In the scene, filmed entirely in Yiddish, an unnamed man (Allen Lewis Rickman) comes home during a snowstorm and tells his wife (Yelena Shmulenson) that he had been helped along his way by an acquaintance of hers, Reb Groshkover (Fyvush Finkel), whom he has invited in for soup. However, the wife informs him that the Reb had died three years prior, and that this visitor must be a dybbuk, an undead being of Jewish folklore. The guest laughs off this suggestion, but eventually she stabs the visitor, and he goes back out to the snow, leaving the mystery unresolved.

Plot: On the windswept Suffolk mudflats creaks a bird-hide, inside which hovers Roy Tunt, a prematurely aged, mildly obsessive-compulsive birder. After a tense introduction, the two men discover that they have a good deal in common, sharing sandwiches, tea and personal exchanges which are frank, poignant and often funny. As the two men begin to form a close bond news of a police manhunt sets them both on edge driving their fragile relationship to a tragic conclusion.
